Creating Your First Board

The board creation wizard guides you through each step. Here's what to expect and tips for each section.

Step 1: Who Is It For?

Enter basic information about your recipient:

  • Recipient's name - This appears on the board and in the URL (e.g., "Sara's Get Well Board")
  • Occasion - Choose from Surgery Recovery, Illness, Injury, or General Support

Tip: Use their preferred name. If everyone calls them "Sam" but their legal name is "Samuel," use "Sam."

Step 2: Choose a Theme

Select the visual style for your board:

  • Pre-designed themes - Beautiful color combinations ready to use
  • Custom colors - Pick your own primary, secondary, and accent colors
  • Occasion-specific themes - Some themes are tailored to specific occasions

The theme affects the board's background, card colors, and overall mood. You can change this later if needed.

Step 3: Campaign Message

Write a message that will be shown to contributors when they visit the board. This helps set the tone and gives context. Good campaign messages:

  • Explain why you're creating the board
  • Set expectations for the type of messages (supportive, funny, etc.)
  • Include any relevant context (what happened, when they'll see it)
  • Are warm and personal

"Let's show Sara some love before her surgery next week! She's been nervous about the procedure, so let's fill this board with encouragement, funny memories, and well wishes. She'll see this when she wakes up from surgery."

Step 4: Configure Modules

All 11 modules are enabled by default. On this step you can:

  • Toggle modules on or off
  • Reorder modules (drag and drop)
  • Preview how the board will look

Don't worry too much about this - you can always change it later from the board management page.

Step 5: Invite Contributors

Add email addresses for people you want to invite. They'll receive an email with a direct link to the board. You can also:

  • Skip this step and share the link manually later
  • Add more invites after the board is created
  • Copy the share link to send via text, Slack, or social media

Step 6: Review & Launch

Review all your settings before launching:

  • Recipient name and occasion
  • Theme preview
  • Campaign message
  • Enabled modules
  • Invited contributors

Once you launch, the board goes live and contributors can start adding messages immediately.

After Launch

After your board is live, you can:

  • View and manage all contributions
  • Invite more contributors
  • Toggle modules on/off
  • Send announcement emails
  • Set up the reveal
